BIS HALLMARKING

Consumers often wonder how pure the metal is and how they can validate that the gold that is being sold to them is as per specifications and is worth the money. To ensure quality control of gold and safeguarding innocent buyers from fraudulent jewellers, the government initiated a certification scheme to authenticate any piece of gold jewellery purchased. The BIS hallmark was launched to accurately determine the proportionate metal content in order to protect consumers from irregular gold quality. The hallmarking scheme not only conforms to the standards of Bureau of Indian Standards, it also has been aligned with international benchmarks.

THE BIS HALLMARK CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING FIVE COMPONENTS:

  • The BIS mark
  • The Fineness number (corresponding to given Karatage)
  • Assaying and Hallmarking Centre's mark
  • Jeweller's identification mark
  • The year of marking denoted by a code letter and decided by BIS (e.g. code letter `A' was approved by BIS for year 2000, `B' being used for the year 2001 and `C' for 2002 and 'J' for 2008). These are the key things one should look which assure you the right quality. Consumers can even get their jewellery tested from any BIS Recognized Assaying & Hallmarking Centre. Random market samples are drawn from licensed jewellers and are put to test to verify its authenticity.
  • Jewellers all over India hold the BIS hallmarking in high regard and adhere to its standard practices. It is also widely accepted by buyers across India as it gives them the assurance of the right value of gold purchased at a given price.

DIAMOND AND GEMSTONE JEWELLERY CERTIFICATION

While the BIS hallmarking certifies the purity of gold, international bodies like IDGL,CGL ,IGI and GIA determine a diamond’s gemological makeup, rarity and quality. We ensure that all our diamond or gemstone studded jewellery is certified by these labs.
